Why does my online passport application status show “routine service”, even though I applied for expedited?

I applied for a new passport at a post office, and paid for the expedited processing. 7 days later my application record appeared online, but it says there I applied for the routine service. Did anybody else have that same thing happen? Do they now always show “routine service” online even if you applied for express processing? Also, does anybody know if the passport situation got any better now in August, since the summer travel is almost over? I applied on August 6, and I need to travel to Europe on Sep. 21

1. If you put down that you are leaving on Sept. 21, then you probably will get your passport about one week before that. They take the departure date very seriously and they don't issue passports on a first come first served basis... they go by the date you plan to leave... and it's doesn't matter you paid for expedited service... that is a con game they have been using for years to make extra money.
