What to put in the "relationsship to other parent" field on a passport application in Canada?

Applying for a passport for a child- both parents are in agreement about it. They were teenagers when he was born, never married, and broke up shortly after his birth. Mom has sole and dad has court ordered visitation. What should they put on the passport in the "relationship with other parent" field? (they arent married, dovorced etc).

  1. I just looked at the form. Use "single" because you were never married and therefore couldn't be divorced or separated from them. Married or not to someone else by now, you were still single in relation to the other parent.
  2. You would put single as you are not currently in a relationship with them I will give you an example: I had to get passports for my kids(and step daughter), I am divorced from my son's father, so I put divorced on his, and I am currently married to my daughter's father and I put Married for hers, my husband and I also got a passport for his daughter at the same time, and since they were never married or in a relationship he put single and when we took them in to Passport Canada they did not correct any of them or inform us that we had filled it out incorrectly. Confusing but correct in Passport Canada's view.
