What are the risks of entering another country and not using your US passport?

As in if you have a US passport, but use a passport such as a Irish passport? I have heard that the US embassy won't help you if something happens.

1. I have never heard any such thing. Of course,if you choose to enter on an Irish passport, and end up needing help, you could always go to the Irish Embassy!
2. If u have a US citizen then you will be helped.
3. The US embassy will help US citizens regardless of what passport they use to enter the country. Using your US passport just makes this easier. The only exception is when you are a dual citizen - for example, if you are a dual Irish-US citizen and you are in Ireland, the US embassy has no power to help you.
