EASY 10 POINTS: How long is it to receive a United States Passport? I went to my post office and bought home an application for a United States Passport. I submitted my form in to the Post Office. I did not select expedited service, therefore I will be receiving my Passport in regular time. I did not wish to pay the extra fees. So long long will it take for me to get the Passport to my house if I submitted it today (July 1st)? Thanks!
United States Passport? I recently applied (this is a passport renewal) for a United States Passport Card and realized after my application was submitted I would also be needing a passport book. Since it's the weekend I can't call the Dept. of State to ask if I can add a passport book to my order and pay the extra fees over the phone? Can this be done or will I have to send in another application? I'm traveling in 4 weeks and paid for the expedited service.

Do people, anywhere in the world, have a right to enter the United States irrespective of our laws pertaining? Do people, anywhere in the world, have a right to enter the United States irrespective of our laws pertaining to immigration? Do people, anywhere in the world, have a right to enter the United States irrespective of our laws pertaining to immigration? Unless one wishes to obfuscate, there's a simple "yes" or "no" answer to that question. If a "yes" answer is given, then why should there be any immigration requirements, such as visas, passports and green cards, for anyone who wishes to visit or reside in our country? Why not abolish the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services? If your answer is "no," one does not have a right to enter the U.S. irrespective of our laws, what does that make a person who does so? Most often we call a person whose behavior violates a law a criminal. If people commit criminal acts, should there be an effort to apprehend and punish them? The United States is a nation of immigrants from all over the world. The resulting ethnic mosaic goes a long way toward explaining our greatness as a nation. Immigration has always been a blessing for us, and it still is. But yesteryear's immigration and today's differ in several important respects. For the most part, yesteryear's immigrants came here legally. Because there was no welfare state, we were guaranteed that they'd work as opposed to living off the rest of us. Furthermore, they sought to assimilate and adopt our culture and become Americans. That's not so true today, where Hispanic activists seek to impose their language and culture on the rest of us. At some public schools, they've raised the Mexico flag atop the U.S. flag. They've announced that they seek to take back parts of the U.S. that were formerly Mexico

Are Puerto Ricans considered full citiens of the United States who can travel freely back and forth to the USA? Does an American citizen of USA have to have a passport to travel to Puerto Rico? Also, does a citizen of Puerto Rico have to have a passport to travel to the USA mainland? Are citizens of Puerto Rico the same thing as United States Citizens in every way and do they enjoy and and all the same priveleges of US citizenship as a person that was born in for example...Kansas? Or some other state in the continental USA? Is there any rights of citizenship and/or travel that differs between a citizen from Puerto Rico and a citizen of the Heartland of the USA like Nevada or even Texas or any other US state? IS there any difference between the legal status of citizenship and freedom of travel between the 2? Is traveling from a us state to Puerto Rico or travel from puerto rico to a us state any different legally than traveling from say...Virginia to Arkansas? (From one us state to another) is it all exactly the same with no passport or quota or customs..etc...? what differences is there between a US citizen born in some state inside the USA and someone from Puerto Rico? Does a Puerto Rican lack any of the same rights and priveleges afforded to someone from one of the continental United States??? Is there any difference between someone born in say....North Carolina and someone born in Puerto RIco...as far as unrestricted travel without quotas or passport or military service in the the U.S. military? Is it just as easy as a Puerto Rican to join the US army as it is for a Texan? Does Puerto Rico have its own government that is soveriegn in any way more than a state in the continental usa? Does Puerto Rico have it's own military or congress or anything? I guess what I am asking for is the difference between a citizen of Puerto Rico and a citizen of a continental US state? For example...could a native born Puerto Rican run for President of the USA? Is there any opportunities or advantages of US citizenship that a Puerto Rican lacks that a Californian, Texan, or Floridian has? Thank you in advance for your answer, perry in FL So they have the full rights of US citizens except they cannot be president of the US and they cannot vote in presidential elelctions?
Passports - Occupation? It is my understanding that many military posts offer expedited service in obtaining United States passports. Unfortunately the post at which I currently reside is not one of them. It does offer the service however only if the passport is required for execution of duties. Be that as it may my question is given that the passport will be used for personal travel and that identifying yourself as a member of the U.S. military while on personal travel is not a good idea whether: a) I should list my actual occupation (And whether it is acceptable to do so) and b) What acceptable alternatives are if I chose not to list me actual profession.

I already have searched through colleges and universities for Fall 2008 semester for Legal Studies degree and currently I am completing requirements for admissions like TOEFL, WES (evaluation services for my transcripts) etc. I am currently a law student here in the Philippines, although I have two years off from school to have work experience. I also have several backpacking trips outside of the Philippines, thus, having stamps in my passports. I know that visa interviews are very subjective (dependent on the consular officer), I just want to know what are my hopes of getting the visa. Thanks :)
What does this tel you about a man? What does this tel you about a man? Becase if this rule he will never marry or have sex with a women in the United States or in a country that has a child support treaty with the United States. Section 51.70 (a) (8) of Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations states, in part, that if you are certified to Passport Services by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to be in arrears of child support payments in excess of $2,500, you are ineligible to receive a U.S. passport.

Is Civil War in the United States Inevitable? The implementation of the REAL ID ACT( federal id system containing radio frequency identification chips similar to the new passport system) and the increased accessibility to information will cause outrage in this country. After failing to pass in the house of reps. in early 2005, the REAL ID ACT bill was tacked onto the war on terror and tsunami relief legistlation. Because 100% of private income tax goes towards paying off our national debt of the federal reserve banking system, $82 Billion in subsidized taxation will be re-allocated in the form of $23.1 Billion over 10 years to pay for uncle sam's big weapon. In 2009, if you live or work in the USA, you'll need this federally approved id card to travel by plane, boat, drive a car, open an account, collect social security, or benefit from any government service. The authoritarian implications for this monstrous social reformation must be in the public scope now! Once people become aware of this reality, will they revolt?
Passport help!!? I am considering going on a short vacation around the second or third week of October. However, my destination would probably be somewhere outside of the United States. I do not have a passport. I understand that the expedited service takes three weeks. I doubt I'd be able to get one in time. Is there anyway I'd still be able to go? I went to the Passport website and there was some mention of "If you do not have your passport but are traveling within the next seven days, please call ...." So does that mean it's doable? Has anyone done this? It's not a huge deal, I could choose some US place to go instead or delay the trip until November or December. Thanks in advance. And---> I'm a US citizen...born here...and have a valid driver's license as well as any of the other forms of ID that I would need. The only thing I don't have, obviously, is a passport. I'm somewhat confused about the "Urgent Passport" service. Because on the website, it said something about an expedited service taking three weeks. I think my best bet (although still possibly a regrettably poor choice) is to go to the nearest Post Office and check with them first or see who they recommend contacting for additional information. And like I mentioned, and as some of you suggested, it might just be better to delay the trip. Maybe I'll do that to avoid the stress and stay in the states or just lengthen the later trip. I just need to unwinddddd. Help! Haha.
Passport for Caribbean cruise? http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20071800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2007/07-3104.htm This document at the DHS website states that if you leave from a US port and return to the same port, then a photo id and birth certificate are all that will be required. It states U.S. cruise ship passengers traveling within the Western Hemisphere would be permitted to present a government issued photo identification document in combination with either (1) An original or a certified copy of a birth certificate, (2) a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or (3) a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), when returning to the United States, under certain conditions: The passengers must board the cruise ship at a port or place within the United States; and The passengers must return on the same ship to the same U.S. port or place from where they originally departed. Has anyone else seen this? There is also a statement on this here http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1182350422171.shtm The departments have also identified unique circumstances for specific groups of travelers that warrant permitting the use of alternative documents. U.S. citizens on round trip cruise ship voyages that originate and end in the United States may present a government-issued photo ID and birth certificates, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad or Certificates of Naturalization Mike, the documents that I referenced were not pertaing to the temporary rule change, but to the final implementation. This is what was submitted to the National Register for their proposed rule change.

Is it moral assuming the identity of a deceased individual to obtain a U.S. passport? A Mexican national living in Whittier was arrested Tuesday at the U.S.-Mexico border in an ongoing federal crackdown on passport application fraud, which has netted 11 other arrests over the past three weeks. Alma Huerta, 40, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on Oct. 21 on charges of using a false identity to obtain a passport in 2000 and using that document in an attempt to open a bank account, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. A total of 20 defendants have been charged with making false statements in relation to passport applications. Authorities are searching for eight fugitives, prosecutors said. The sweep stems from findings by the Diplomatic Security Service's Los Angeles office that saw a 30 percent increase from 2007 to 2008 in passport fraud cases, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Among those arrested: -- Sergio Samonet, 48, a Cuban citizen who resides in South Gate, who allegedly stole the identity of his ex-wife's mentally handicapped son and used that identity to obtain a U.S. Passport. Samonet was convicted in 2005 on state charges related to his use of the same stolen identity, and he was subsequently ordered deported from the U.S. by an immigration court; -- Piyamas Jeerapaet, 41, of Burbank, who allegedly using her position as a U.S. Postal Service employee to help her brother, a Thai citizen, obtain a passport in a false identity. Jeerapaet pleaded not guilty last week in Los Angeles federal court and is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 29; -- Francisco Martinez, 67, a Mexican national who was living in Oxnard, was arrested for allegedly assuming the identity of a deceased individual to obtain a U.S. passport in 2001 and to apply for a U.S. Passport Card in 2008. The investigation allegedly found that Martinez had a criminal history related to the sale of narcotics and had previously been deported from the United States. Martinez, who is also charged with illegal re-entry after deportation, pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles last week and is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 22; -- Jose Tejada, 39, a citizen of El Salvador who was residing in Los Angeles, was arrested for allegedly attempting to renew a passport he had already obtained under a false identity in 1995. Tejeda pleaded not guilty last week and is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 8; and -- Jose Yezid Rodriguez-Rojas, who also used the name Angel Luis Pena, is currently in a California state prison. The Colombian national is charged with attempting to obtain a U.S. passport in at least two false identities. Other defendants in custody after being charged in the sweep are: Diego Martinez-Diaz, 26, of Pacoima, who is currently in state prison; Leonardo Aguago Aldape, 39, of Los Angeles; Christian Mauricio Sanchez Merlin, 30, of Whittier; Ricardo Torres, 35, a native of Peru who was living in Van Nuys; Ibrahim Olanrewaju Adekeye, 27; and Odonga Kenya Rush, 38, both of Chula Vista. Those convicted of passport and visa fraud face a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The fugitives currently sought are: Son Parsons, 48, of Alpharetta, Ga.; Suarez Gonzalez, 46, of Los Angeles; Carlos Edward Veliz, 32, of Los Angeles; David Prado Flores, 37, of Downey; Daza Jair Labrador Lopez, 36, of Van Nuys; Hector Acosta-Espinosa, who is believed to be in Mexico; Karen Fuentes, 25, of Long Beach, who is believed to have fled to Nicaragua; and an unidentified man who used the names Juan Molina Sandoval and Edward Valenzuela. http://www.contracostatimes.com/california/ci_13757322?nclick_check=1

What do you think Mexico's Official "Guide For The Mexican Migrant"? Dear fellow citizen: This guide tries to provide you with some practical advice that may be useful to you in case you have made the difficult decision to seek new work opportunities outside of your own country. The safe way of entering another country is by first obtaining your passport, which is issued by the Delegations of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations, and your visa, which you request at the Embassy or Consulate of the country to where you wish to travel. However, we actually see many cases of Mexicans who try to cross the northern border without the necessary documentation, crossing high-risk zones that are very dangerous, especially in desert areas or rivers with strong and not always noticeable currents. INTRODUCTION, PAGES 2 - 3 As you read this guide you can also learn some basic questions about legal consequences of your stay in the United States of America without appropriate immigration documents, as well as the rights you have in that country once you are there, independently of your immigration status. Always keep in mind that there are mechanisms for you to enter the United States of America legally. In any case, if you encounter problems or difficulties, remember that Mexico has 45 Consulates at its disposal in that country, whose contact information you also can find in this publication. Identify your Consulate and go to it. RISKS, PAGES 4 - 5 DANGERS OF CROSSING IN HIGH-RISK ZONES Crossing the river can be very risky, especially if you cross alone and at night. Thick clothing increases your weight when wet and makes it hard to swim or float. RISKS, PAGES 6 - 7 If you cross in the desert, try to travel when the heat is not so intense. Highways and towns are very far apart, so that it could take you several days to find roads and you will not be able to carry food or water for that long; you could even get lost. Salted water helps you retain body fluids. Although you get more thirsty, if you drink salted water the risk of dehydration is lessened. Dehydration symptoms are: •Little or no perspiration •Dryness of eyes and mouth •Headache •Fatigue and exhaustion •Difficulty in walking and reasoning •Hallucinations and mirages If you get lost follow utility poles, railroad tracks or furrows. BE CAREFUL OF ALIEN SMUGGLERS, PAGES 8 - 9 BE CAREFUL OF "POLLEROS", "COYOTES" OR "PATEROS" [Various names for alien smugglers) They can deceive you by assuring you they'll cross you [smuggle you across the border] at certain times over mountains or through deserts. This is not true! They can put your life in danger leading you through rivers, irrigation canals, desert areas, along railroad tracks or freeways. This has caused the death of hundreds of people. If you decide to use the services of "polleros", "coyotes" or "pateros" to cross the border, consider the following precautions to take: Don't let him out of your sight; remember that he's the only one that knows the terrain and therefore is the one that can get you out. Do not trust anyone who offers to cross you over to the "other side" and asks you to drive a vehicle or carry a package for him. Regularly those... BE CAREFUL OF ALIEN SMUGGLERS, PAGES 10 - 11 ...packages contain drugs or other prohibited substances. For that reason many people have ended up in jail. If you transport other people you can be confused with an alien smuggler and be accused of alien smuggling yourself or even vehicle theft. Don't hand over your minor children to strangers that offer to cross them to the United States. DO NOT USE FALSE DOCUMENTS, PAGES 12 - 13 DO NOT USE FALSE DOCUMENTS OR DOCUMENTS OF OTHER PEOPLE, NOR DECLARE A FALSE NATIONALITY If you try to cross with documents that are false or that belong to someone else, keep the following in mind: The use of documents that are false or that belong to someone else is a Federal crime in the United States, for which you can be criminally prosecuted and end up in jail; the same as if you give a false name or say you are a U.S. citizen when you are not. Do not lie to U.S. border crossing or inspection booth agents. IF YOU ARE DETAINED, PAGES 14 - 15 •Do not resist arrest. •Do not assault or insult the officer. •Do not throw stones or other objects at the officers nor at the patrol cars, because this is considered a form of provocation. •If the officers feel they've been assaulted they will probably use force to detain you. •Raise your hands slowly for them to see you're unarmed. •Do not carry or hold any objects that could be construed as weapons, such as: lanterns, screwdrivers, blades, knives or stones. IF YOU ARE DETAINED, PAGE 16 / YOUR RIGHTS, PAGE 17 IF YOU ARE DETAINED •Don't run or try to escape. •Don't hide in dangero
Could I please get some feed back on this paper? APA format, How is the writing, Should it have more info etc. Modern day slavery also known as “human trafficking.” Traffickers look for individuals who are poor, unemployed, or families that are in high debt, mainly women and children in certain countries. Victims are convinced with false promises of a good job and a better way of living, and then forced to work under abusive and inhuman conditions. Victims of trafficking are brought into the system through several means. Most victims of trafficking today come from three populations. First, parents may sell children to traffickers in order to pay off debts or gain income. Second, runaways or other displaced persons may be picked up by traffickers. Third, people who are seeking entry to other countries may be picked up by traffickers, and typically are misled into thinking that they will be free after being smuggled across the border. Definitions may very base upon that cultural variation of the crime. In the United States, when people think of human trafficking, they often refer to the illegal practice of migrant smuggling. They picture illegal immigrants from countries like Mexico or China arriving into the United States by way of freight trailer or cargo boat in search for job opportunities and freedom. Human trafficking is defined as sex trafficking in which commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or in which the person forced to perform such an act is under 18. The recruitment, transportation, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force or fraud, for the purpose of subjecting that person to involuntary hard labor, high debts owed, or slavery. Men, women, and children worldwide were bought, sold, transported, and held against their will in unsafe and abusive conditions. Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing forms of commerce and crime throughout the world. While men, women, and children are trafficked throughout many countries into forced labor situations in sweatshops and agricultural sites, the majority of victims are women and children trafficking into the sex trade for the purpose of prostitution, sex tourism, pornography and other sexual services. Most recent Department of States estimates indicate that 700,000 to million women and children are trafficked each year across the world, 50,000 of them into and within the United States (Chauang, J., 2006). The International Organization for Migrations (IOM) estimate the rate could be much higher, stating that as many as two million men, women and children were trafficking across borders in 2001 (IOM website, 2003). Illegal aliens look for the help of “traffickers” to be transporter into another country, mainly the United States. Traffickers, work in small, large, or highly organized groups, arranging for everything from transportation to fake identification, visas, passports and work documents for the aliens. While the conditions of transportation may be unknown, “smuggled” aliens knowingly and willingly enter the destination country to work or find work, they agree to being smuggled. However, a smuggling relationship may allow the opportunity for the smuggler to alter the relationship to trafficking. Persons who seek the help of smugglers often become victims of trafficking, in the destination country or en route. When victims have never consented to being smuggled are either kidnapped or deceived with false employment offers. Traffickers make a profit between seven billion and ten billion dollars a year globally, and it is know as the third largest source of illicit trade, behind guns and narcotics. According to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, the intelligence community predicts that revenue from trafficking “will outstrip the illicit trade in guns and narcotics within a decade.” (Chauang, J., 2006). History Early trafficking efforts focused on white slavery. In 1904, the International Agreement for the Suppression of the White Slave Traffic was created, although very few countries signed it. In the following decades, the focus on trafficking continued to be on women and children who were sold into prostitution. The first concerted international effort to combat trafficking came in 1949, with the U.N. Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. Like other such conventions before it, the document focused on the trafficking of women and children for prostitution. The U.S. at the same time was undertaking its own efforts to combat global human trafficking. In 2000, Congress passed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (also referred to as the Trafficking Victims Protection Act), the first U.S. law to comprehensively address the various aspects of human trafficking. The act included measures to help those who were trafficked and to increase punishment for traffickers, as well as to bolster other countries' efforts against trafficking. President Bill Clinton (D, 1993-2000) signed the act in October 2000, hailing it as "the most significant step we've ever taken to secure the health and safety of women at home and around the world." With regard to dealing with those who have been trafficked, the law represented a turnaround in policy. Previously, those found working illicitly were treated as criminals. The 2000 act changed that, treating those people as victims of a crime and seeking to help rather than punish them. Under the act, victims can be given a special visa, called a T-visa, allowing them to stay in the U.S. for up to three years if they would face hardship upon deportation. In return, the victims agree to assist in the investigation and prosecution of the traffickers. (As of March 2004, 448 victims of trafficking had been granted a T-visa.) The U.S. has also cracked down on Americans who may contribute to trafficking abroad. For example, Congress has passed legislation under which Americans who travel overseas to frequent child prostitutes, known as "sex tourism," can be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. And the Defense Department has also established a "zero tolerance" policy toward U.S. servicemen who may contribute to human trafficking overseas. In addition, individual states have also begun to pass human trafficking legislation. Texas and Washington State were the first two states to pass such legislation, and Arizona and California are considering similar legislation. Do you know the Mexican Agenda? Among the U.S. domestic issues on which the Mexican government is actively exerting influence outside of normal diplomatic channels both through its broad network of consular offices and through the new structure of overseas communities are the following: * Driver's licenses. Mexican consular officers and Mexican community activists have aggressively been lobbying state legislatures to adopt laws that allow illegal immigrants to obtain state driver's licenses. This effort has been successful in a number of states but met with a setback in 2005 when the REAL ID bill was adopted as part of the Iraq-Afghanistan Supplemental bill. This action led to Mexican President Fox's announcement on May 12, that his government would take unspecified actions to oppose the new U.S. law and his intemperate comment that "Mexican immigrants...are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States." * Mexican Consular IDs — Matricula Consular. Shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States and the government's heightened security concerns, the Mexican government began to aggressively seek recognition of identity cards issued to Mexicans residing in the United States by local governments. Because Mexicans who are legal immigrants already have identity documents such as the 'green card' and legal nonimmigrants have documents such as a Mexican passport and U.S. visa or U.S. Border Crossing Card, the object of this ID campaign clearly was to provide an identity document to Mexicans illegally residing in the United States. The campaign was not just to issue the matricula consular to these illegal aliens, but also to get those documents accepted by local governments for law enforcement purposes and provision of services. * In-State Tuition. The network of Mexican consular officials and local support groups has also aggressively lobbied state government to adopt laws that allow Mexican and other illegal aliens who have graduated from U.S. high schools to be able to benefit from the taxpayers' support of higher education by enrolling at in-state resident tuition rates.
Do I meet the citizenship requirements for service in the Royal Marines? I was born and raised in the United States to an American father. That being said, my mother is from Liverpool, and didn't leave England until she was 22-years-old to study in America. She has yet to obtain full American citizenship and continues to travel with her British passport. It i my understanding that I automatically inherit British citizenship from my mother under the Naturalization Act of 1981. Is this correct? Am I eligible to serve in Her Majesty's armed forces?

If I was born in the U.K. to a British Mother and an American father in 1978, do I have British Citizenship? Hello, I was wondering if someone could help to answer a question for me... with a couple sub-questions (sorry). I was born in the U.K. in 1978 to a British mother and an American father. My mother was born there and spent her entire life in the U.K. until she met my father who was stationed in England as a member of the United States Air Force. We moved to the U.S. in 1984 and I am a United States citizen with a U.S. passport. I have copies of my original British birth certificate. My mother is now an American citizen. I am thinking of applying for a British passport and British Citizenship but want to know if I am eligible or not, or if I am automatically a British Citizen by birth since I was born in England prior to 1983. If I do qualify for British citizenship, do I have to swear allegiance to the British crown? I am asking this because it states in U.S. passport guidelines that an individual may lose his/her American citizenship if they swear allegiance to a foreign government. I do not wish to lose my American passport or citizenship, I want to become a dual citizen, carrying both passports with the ability to reside and work in either place, access NHS services if I happen to become sick while in the U.K., etc. I realize that the U.S. supposedly does not recognize dual citizenship but that the U.K. does. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pro Illegal is this what they want more of 1,700 try to pass fake documents for driver's licenses? Where is the honest Mexican here ? More than 1,700 illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to pass fake documents at state driver's licenses offices in the first month after a tough immigration law went into effect, according to a state official. "We're seeing evidence of individuals trying to slip through the cracks," said Michael Cooke, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue. Colorado's new anti-illegal immigration laws passed by the legislature this summer set up a strict identification check meant to deny most public services to undocumented adult immigrants. The Division of Motor Vehicles is on the front line of those checks. As residents come into DMV offices to get state ID cards or driver's licenses, they're asked to present birth certificates and immigration papers such as passports and green cards to prove they are in the United States legally. Those documents are then run through the federal SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification of Entitlements) system to verify the applicant's legal immigration status. In the past month, about 2,100 applicants at DMV were told their documents needed further investigation. Of those, 177 met with investigators and were cleared as legal residents of Colorado. But more than 1,700 cases are pending. Cooke believes DMV will never see those applicants again because they know their documents are phony. "We're asking them to go to our investigative unit so we can look into the matter, and we're not hearing back from them," Cooke said. The 1,700-plus names have been sent to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, she said. So far, DMV offices have also caught about 150 people attempting to use fraudulent birth certificates, and that number is climbing. Most of the certificates were authentic, but the person presenting the document was not the individual named on the certificate, Cooke said.

Filipinoys, watch out! look who's coming to a neighborhood near you in hordes? http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/07/13/sex.offenders.passports/index.html?hpt=C2 (CNN) -- Thousands of registered sex offenders have received U.S. passports, including at least 30 federal employees, according to a Government Accountability Office report obtained by CNN. The GAO report said the Department of State cannot legally deny passports to registered sex offenders, except those specifically convicted of sex tourism. The report concluded that about 4,500 U.S. passports of the more than 16 million issued in fiscal year 2008 were issued to registered sex offenders. "Federal statutes authorize the Secretary of State to deny issuance of a passport in certain circumstances, such as while an individual is imprisoned or on parole or supervised release for a conviction for international drug trafficking or sex tourism or is in arrearages for child support," the report states. "However, there is currently no comprehensive program to deny passports to applicants who are registered sex offenders." The State Department called the report "very misleading" and adding it "conveys more 'shock value' than factual accuracy." In a written response, the department pointed out that only a fraction of 1 percent of the 16 million passports issued in fiscal year 2008 went to registered sex offenders. In addition, the title of the report "fails to convey that GAO found no lawful reasons for the department to deny or revoke the passports of the case study sex offenders based on their status as sex offenders." "The report appears to suggest, without any foundation, that the Department's issuance of passports to certain Americans facilitated their commission of sex crimes abroad," the department's response said. "There are no facts in the report which show that any of the thirty individuals included in the case studies used his passport to travel to a foreign country to commit a sex crime." The original title of the report, "Passports Issued to Thousands of Registered Sex Offenders," was later changed to "Current Situation Results in Thousands of Passports Issued to Registered Sex Offenders." The GAO report was requested by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Max Baucus, D-Montana. The GAO studied data from the National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR). However, the approximately 4,500 sex offenders who received passports in fiscal year 2008 "is likely understated because many of the records in the passport database and the NSOR lacked valid Social Security numbers ... In addition, the NSOR does not currently contain a comprehensive listing of all sex offenders from the states." The GAO found cases that include a sex offender from Texas who received a passport while in prison, a Delaware man with multiple sex convictions who traveled to the Philippines, Germany and France since receiving his passport, and a Georgia man who has traveled to the Philippines, Ireland and Panama. Among the federal employees who received passports was an aerospace engineer with NASA, an employee of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and a Postal Service carrier who traveled to Taiwan and Japan after receiving his passport. About 50 of those who received passports either lived outside the United States or "their whereabouts were unknown," the report said. A new law took effect in December 2008 that prohibits anyone convicted of sex tourism from receiving a U.S. passport. However, the report said, the Department of State was not even aware of the law until April of this year after the GAO "brought this statute to its attention." "When Congress passes a law and the president signs it, then the Executive Branch needs to execute it," Grassley said in a statement. "I'm shocked that GAO had to inform the State Department that Congress made individuals convicted of sex tourism ineligible for passports back in December 2008. It's inexcusable that the State Department did nothing to enforce that provision for 14 months. Since someone who is late on child support payments cannot receive a passport, then surely these criminals should also be stopped from traveling internationally." "It also is disturbing that the GAO found examples prior to that new law where the State Department issued passports to convicted sex offenders who fled law enforcement, received government housing subsidies, and work for the Post Office. This report raises a lot of serious questions about how effectively the government protects us from child predators," Grassley said. The report also studied a group of registered sex offenders -- many who held positions of public trust, including a school teacher, religious layman, and health care provider. "Other cases involve registered sex offenders who owe child support or are currently in prison or whose whereabouts ar
Does Hillary really have the Qualifications, to be Secretary of State? After reading the duties of this job description....I don't think she should have been appointed to this job... Duties of the Secretary of State FACT SHEET Bureau of Public Affairs Washington, DC January 22, 2001 Under the Constitution, the President of the United States determines U.S. foreign policy. The Secretary of State, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the President’s chief foreign affairs adviser. The Secretary carries out the President’s foreign policies through the State Department and the Foreign Service of the United States. Created in 1789 by the Congress as the successor to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State is the senior executive Department of the U.S. Government. The Secretary of State’s duties relating to foreign affairs have not changed significantly since then, but they have become far more complex as international commitments multiplied. These duties—the activities and responsibilities of the State Department—include the following: Serves as the President’s principal adviser on U.S. foreign policy; Conducts negotiations relating to U.S. foreign affairs; Grants and issues passports to American citizens and exequaturs to foreign consuls in the United States; Advises the President on the appointment of U.S. ambassadors, ministers, consuls, and other diplomatic representatives; Advises the President regarding the acceptance, recall, and dismissal of the representatives of foreign governments; Personally participates in or directs U.S. representatives to international conferences, organizations, and agencies; Negotiates, interprets, and terminates treaties and agreements; Ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries; Supervises the administration of U.S. immigration laws abroad; Provides information to American citizens regarding the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian conditions in foreign countries; Informs the Congress and American citizens on the conduct of U.S. foreign relations; Promotes beneficial economic intercourse between the United States and other countries; Administers the Department of State; Supervises the Foreign Service of the United States. In addition, the Secretary of State retains domestic responsibilities that Congress entrusted to the State Department in 1789. These include the custody of the Great Seal of the United States, the preparation of certain presidential proclamations, the publication of treaties and international acts as well as the official record of the foreign relations of the United States, and the custody of certain original treaties and international agreements. The Secretary also serves as the channel of communication between the Federal Government and the States on the extradition of fugitives to or from foreign countries. Do you think that this is true, what do American man think about this? Many American mothers (who are very good mother according to social services) do not put my daughter’s daddy on the birth certificate in the US, is because that way I do not need his consent to get a US passport and move out of state or the country and I will never have to deal with family court. This passport requirement creates more fathers less children and is the only reason why many American mothers do not want the father involved in the United States. It does not matter if the father is a good father, or a horrible father. If man have no legal rights to there children in American many mothers would want the father involved. For this reason many woman in the United States, will only have a child with a sperm donor from a sperm bank so there children will have no legal father.

Why are US passports no longer acceptable as proof of US citizenship and right to work here? It says right on the I-9 form that a current, unexpired US passport is a stand alone document establishing identity, citizenship, and right to work here. You would not HAVE a US passport if you had not given the passport office your valid, correct social security number on, I believe, the initial application for your first one. But I guess no employer in southern California knows this?! It's a violation of federal law, namely it's called "document abuse," for an employer to refuse to accept a US passport as a stand-alone document. But that's running rampant here these last few years. Everywhere I go, it seems, when I do get so far as to the paperwork of what few jobs there are that will take me, they refuse to accept my US passport. Now, temp agencies did not do this. Manpower and Kelly Services did not do this. This is illegal. That is not my question. I used to work for the federal government. My question is why so many California employers, not to mention other places like the food stamps office, legal aid, etc., do it anyway and act like they have some kind of right to break federal law. Does California think it's not part of the United States of America or that federal laws don't apply to them? What the hell is wrong with California? Is it having a problem with all kinds of illegal aliens holding fake US passports - and if that's it, then the problem is does a Native American look like an illegal alien. The last time I checked it was Social Security Cards and drivers' licenses that were plentiful on the black market, fakes and stolen/altered ones. Not passports.
Do i have to do military service in mexico.. (please read the description)? Ok. So I am 18 years old, 100% LEGAL U.S. CITIZEN (moved to USA when i was in 8th grade, had greencard - cuz mother married American guy, she took the test and passed so we are now 100% Citizens, just some background info...) and I got Dual citizenship, i still got my Mexican passport, and i THINK the house were my father lives in Mexico is in my name. NOW, in Mexico, when a guy turns 18 we have to register, and it is like a "lotery" if we actually have to do the military service, we have to draw a little ball out of a box, if it is black we have to do the military service, if it is white, we don't have to and we get all our papers we need. If one fails to do the military service, you cannot marry (in mexico) have credit, buy a house, or a car. I think the card you get is called a "Registration card" Now, I live in the U.S.A. and plan on staying here (i'm in college) but i plan on going to Mexico to visit my family (haven't seen them in over 4 years) for about 3 - 4 weeks during summer, do i have to do the military service or not? I live over here, so...yeah. I'm confused. I went to the consulate website, and didn't find anything. I will probably ask the same question on the yahoo.mx website, lol, but i know there are millions of us mexicans over here, so please help. :) TAGS: "Do i have to do military service if i am mexican but live in the USA" "Servicio Militar Mexicano cuando viviendo en los Estados Unidos" "Mexican Military Service while living in USA" "Mexican Military Service while living in The United States of America" "Do i have to do the Mexican military service if i am mexican but live in the USA and have DUAL CITIZENSHIP" Thanks guys.
Man fights for country in Iraq what thanks he gets deport his wife immigration say? WASHINGTON - Spc. Moonsammy Narinesammy isn’t worried about dying in Iraq. He’s worried about spending the rest of his life in Guyana. Narinesammy, 31, who has months left on his deployment, spends all of his free time between missions trying to solve his wife’s citizenship problems. Immigration and Naturalization Services officials are finalizing deportation paperwork for Ratashwarie, while she waits nervously in New York. "I don’t know if somebody is going to knock on the door one day and haul me away while my daughter is out at school," she said. She faces a possible lifetime banishment from the United States for entering the country on a forged passport in 2000. Moonsammy said the only relatives she has in Guyana live in poor, dangerous slums, in an area where neither wants to raise their two young daughters. "All I want to do is come back home to my family, but I don’t know what’s going to happen," said Moonsammy, himself a naturalized U.S. citizen. "I have a wonderful family, but it’s getting ripped apart." Immigration experts say it’s not an unusual story. "I probably get one of these calls a week," said Lt. Col. Margaret Stock, an Army reservist who works with the American Immigration Lawyers Association. "It’s a military readiness problem. The spouses are over there, stressing out about what’s happening back home. They can’t focus because they’re worried about where their wives will end up." http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=63450
How to get a photocopy of an ID notarized if I'm living outside the US, and US embassy refuses to notarize it? I have a bank account in the United States, but I live now in my country.. I'm being asked by the bank to update my information by sending notarized photocopies of documents like passport and so.. I asked about US public notary in foreign countries, I've been told (by an email from the US Department of State!) that the US embassy provide such service, but when I got there, they told my that they provide their services only to US persons (which contradicts with info on USDoS website and their email !) Thanks in advance, Is there is any other way to get this done?? please notice that these are not regular documents.. they are government issued IDs.
American Government! Two multiple choice questions!? 2. During the Civil War, the United States first used compulsory military service, or (1 point) * sanction. * conscription. * regional security pact. * mutual defense alliance. 3. All males when they reach age 18 are required to (1 point) * obtain a visa. * visit a consulate. * obtain a passport. * register with the draft board. stuck on these, thanks soo much for your help<3

Husband about to apply for naturalization, (35 years old) Not registered for selective service.? He came on a passport when he was in high school, but didn't become a resident until 3 years ago, after his marriage to me. Does/can he still register for the selective service? This is what the handbook says....If you are male, you generally need to register with the Selective Service System before applying for naturalization. If you are male and lived in the United States (in any status other than as a lawful nonimmigrant) during ages 18 through 25, you must be registered with the Selective Service System. If you are male and entered the United States after you turned 26 years old, you do not have to register with the Selective Service. If you have not registered, you must register at a United States Post Office or on the Selective Service System’s Internet site to receive a Selective Service number. The Selective Service System Internet site can be reached at www.sss.gov or through the USCIS Internet site at www.uscis.gov. You must have a Social Security number to register on the Internet. If you were required to register, but did not register before you turned 26, you must do the following: • Call 1-847-688-6888 or register online at www.sss.gov and complete the Selective Service System’s Questionnaire Form. Note that registering online may speed up the process By what that says... does he just go to the web site and register? I'm confused. Any help would be appreciated!
Problem With Secondary ID At The BMV!!? So I've made many trips to the BMV--10 to be exact--to get my State ID. Only a State ID, not my license....now of course I have to show my Social Security Card, proof of address, and because I wasn't born here in Indiana (Florida), my birth certificate. To get a copy of my birth certificate alone took about 7 months--guessing someone wasn't doin their job. But the 3rd or 4th time of going in to the BMV someone at the desk said I'm qualified and took my snapshot. And as their getting it registered or developing it or whatever they do back there, a different woman tells me I need secondary ID. No 1 told me that before. So they did away with my picture I guess, and I left. Anyhoo, I said I haven't heard of a seconday ID before, I thought that's why I had a SS card. She gives me this paper stating all the different forms they accept as secondary ID. Thing is I don't qualify for a single form on that entire list. From the IN BMV website ("http://www.in.gov/bmv/5161.htm"): Any document from the list of Primary Documents may be used as a Secondary Document. * Certified academic transcripts from schools in the United States and its territories * School report card dated within 12 months of application * School identification card with photo or yearbook photo within three years of application * An identification card with photo issued by a foreign consulate * An identification card with photo issued by the federal government * An Indiana identification card * A driver license, identification card, or permit with photo issued by another state * Original driving record from another state * Valid form I-20 with a valid form I-94 and a F-1/F-2 status in passport * Valid form DS-2019 with a valid form I-94 and a J-1/J-2 status in passport * Indiana county pre-sentence Investigation report with clerk stamp or seal * Indiana gun permit * Indiana probation identification with photo, name and date of birth * Letter from probation officer, caseworker, or social worker on official letterhead, certified with stamp or seal with the applicant's name and signature of the probation officer, caseworker, or social worker * Prison release documentation * U.S. district court pre-sentence Investigation report with stamp or seal * Valid banking card or MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover card issued in the name of the applicant with his or her signature * Bank statement issued within sixty (60) days of application * Form W-2 (federal or state) or Form 1099 with applicant's name and address * Computer generated pay check stub with applicant's name and address * Valid employee identification card with photo * Valid Indiana professional license * Valid insurance card * Medicare or Medicaid Card * U.S. military discharge or DD214 separation papers * U.S. Uniformed services card * Divorce decree certified by court of law with stamp or seal. * Application of Marriage or Record of Marriage that is certified with stamp or seal I'm 22, so the rules and regulations for a minor don't apply to me. I don't got a state ID. I don't got a high school id--didn't go here. I've tried seeing if Social Security would help me. They said no cos I'm not using any benefits from SS. I don't have health insurance. I tried getting a credit card shipped to me. They all declined me, saying I need to give license or state ID information. I've tried opening a bank account in my name--have to give id. I could use my license as secondary ID, but I don't have 1. I'd try getting a gun and using the permit, but I don't like guns and I'd have to show ID for registration. The only thing I can think that I haven't done is maybe see if I can get a library card without showing ID and hopefully if I can sign my name on the back of it, maybe that could fall under the credit card option. It's hard for me to sit here and wait for something that's essentially already mine. It's like I slipped into some kind of crack in the system. With how long I've waited for my birth certificate to be sent to me and my waiting for my state ID combined, I've *patiently* waited for about a year. I don't know how much longer I can wait. I odn't know what to do. If I can't get a library card, the only other option I can see is getting a criminal record, but I'm very much against that--don't got 1, don't want 1. Please, is there anyone who can help me?? My life literally depends on it!! No, I'm not working. I'm living at home and trying to work, but I need some kind of ID to get a job. I didn't go to a public high school so I was never given a student ID. I have tried rushcard.com and netspend.com and both told me they couldn't finish processing my order cos they wanted me to fax them copies of my birth certificate and my ID.

someone emailed and offered me a job in UK..how will I know if this is a scam or not? i replied to his email and expressed interest of applying..but i am a bit apprehensive..here are some parts of his email - "Hello How are you? Thanks for the reply to my job offer and the interest in my family.I would like to see your Curriculum Vitae (CV)and also your scanned passport copy.Truly i need a foreign Nanny,i know that there are a lot of Nannies in the UK here but its just that i need a Nanny from outside, that is caring, loving, motherly carefree and well determined, that can take good care of my kids for me but with the recommendation from you and that is the more reason I may need your services, hopefully you will be my kid's Nanny and do according to your words. I reside in Lambert,London and do not get worried about any documents(work Permit and Visa),a travel agency here in the UK will handle that for you as per your visa just scan&send the copy of your international passport and CV through email to them, they will apply for visa on your behalf in the UK Home Office and when the visa is ready the UK Embassy in your country will call on you so that they can endorse the visa on your original passport. If you have any other traveling agency you could also use that. I love my kids so much and would not toy with them. They are the apple of my eyes.I work because of them and am willing to pay any amount to give them the best in the world. You would be needing to settle the Visa Procurement yourself because i paid for 2 Nannies in the past few months which they did not turn up but went somewhere else after their visa was approved and that is why i vowed that any Nanny that i will employ will make half of expenses by himself/herself.Hope you understand how i mean.I need a very serious person and the job is available right now. Also,i use to have a Nanny and she spent 2 years with us,but she got married and relocated to the United states,so i need a replacement ASAP. Your duties are as follows: 1-Supervise breakfast with the children in the morning and get them off to school (Collect my 2KIDS of ages 6yrs old and 4year and half on from school at 3..40pm.) 2-Some Housework/washing/ironing as required on a daily basis 3-Supervise homework, music practice and fun activities or take children to after school activities. 4-Prepare and cook an evening meal for everyone at about 6.30-6.45 Up to two evenings child minding per week. 5-Weekends and Bank holidays would be free that there will not be much duties to carry out. 6-Occasional weekend work would be offered by prior negotiation. I normally leave for work at 7.00am and get back at around 6.30pm although some flexibility is useful. I am offering a live-in position with full board (we eat well in this house!) 1-Separate Toilet and Bathroom. 2-TV,different types of video machines. 3-Personal computer already Internet on. e.t.c for you and i will make sure everything goes on well with you, with my kids. Don't worry about the United Kingdom,it's a nice place to stay and i hope you will enjoy staying here with my family and you will have the access to internet, In fact i have a personal PC at home for myself but my kids usually play games on their own PC, i will get you a computer to start using for your own use.All expenses made by you will be refunded immediately you get here.If you would be using the travel agency i would be recommending my traveling agent to you."

If the World was so Safe before Bush took Office,How do you Explain this List??????? American Victims of Mideast Terrorist Attacks -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is a listing of incidents in which Americans are known to have been killed by Middle East-based terrorists. The list will be updated as more information becomes available. The exact number of American casualties is difficult to calculate because of incomplete news reports regarding numbers and nationalities of those injured. I need your input please! Our 1st interviewing officer on 2003 did not believe that we were married for love but for illegitimate reasons.I'm a citizen of the United States and my husband was born in Morocco and he came here with a student visa in 1998. 2nd interview was on Feb of 2006 that day my husband got his fingerprints done as well., On September 2006 we moved (but stayed in same borough) and immediately change our address online, completed and changed the address change form, changed our address at the post office. I check the case online almost everyday. We also call the costumer service # every other month and we had 2-3 Infopass appointment since then. The message is always the same “the case is pending at the processing site.” On Oct 25, 2007 we got a letter stating that 2 letters has been sent for my husband informing us of appointments to go for fingerprinting and because he failed to go the case was now DENIED (bold front too) no chance to appeal. Also his Employment Authorization was canceled and if he did not file a motion to reconsider (which cost $585 dollars and one and a half year to approve) with in 30 days he would be deported. We never received those letters. We have all this prove that we have been trying to find get information on the case, so how can we not go to the fingerprint appointments. I talked to a lawyer and she said that it all seems as if it was their error, still there is nothing we can do but to file the motion to reconsider because immigration would still require it. November 06, 2006, went to our previously schedule infopass appointment and we explain to the immigration officer that we never got the letters and that we did move. We show her all the papers that we had on the previous infopass and the paper that they sent us very time that we called the costumer service. She then checked the case online and saw that it still said that the case is pending at the Processing site. The officer asked us to make copies of everything that we had and to bring it back to her, we did, she said to go home and that they are going to review the case and get things sorted out. The officer also said that we should be receiving something from them within a week and that if we did not get anything to schedule and infopass before the 21st of November. I’m also subscribed to Visajourney.com (an online forum for immigration base community where users discuss their experiences with their immigration cases). I was instructed by the forum users to go to my congressman’s office and explained the case to him. I took their advice (after waiting a week for immigration to send me a response) and I managed to see an immigration specialist at the congressman's office. I explained the case to her; she saw the USCIS had made a series of error on our case. She immediately called someone at the USCIS and asked to see when they got our AR-11 form; the lady on the other side confirmed that they got the form on Oct-03-06. After a serious conversation about our case with the officer at the USCIS, she (immigration specialist) faxed a letter to them stating the following: ”Pending i-485; this case was denied on 10/25/07 based on "No show" for Biometrics (see pert. info.) appt.: The Pet. and Bene. Submitted an AR-11 and was receipted on 10/03/06; The Biometrics were scheduled for 05/31/07 & 02/28/07 and sent to the old address listed; the FR prints expired on May 2007(see adit stamp from the old FR print appt. that was sent to the old address dated on 02/21/06; We are requesting on behalf of the Pet, & Bene. that a "service Motion" be reconsider base upon the findings that is stated above (AR-11); service motion; service motion; service motion: Please Advise.” As advised by the officer at our first infopass on Nov-06, we made another infopass for nov-20. We went to the infopass and after checking on the case the first thing that she asked us was, if we had gone to our congressman. I responded yes, we did. She then said that because we did that the case is being look into by somebody else in another department. The officer also checked the system further and she saw that they still had the old address in what she called "the old system", she then updated the "old system" so that when they finish reviewing the evidence, the decision would be sent to the new address (after all this they still had the old address in the system). I told the officer that by the time in which they decided to reopen the case or not, it would be outside of the 30 days and if they decide not to reopen, can we still do the motion to consider. The officer said that it's being reviewed as a motion to reconsider. She said that we should be receiving something within the next couple of months. Finally some good news, that means we do not have to pay the $585 plus 1500 to our lawyer to do the motion to reconsider. Finally some uplifting news, USCIS decided to do the service motion and reopen the case. They sent 2 fingerprint appointment, sent him to a civil surgeon, and 2 appointment for another interview (different date) one for the 1st of Feb and another one for the 5th of Feb. We had to bring copies and original of the affidavit, lease, and so on once more. We decided to go with our lawyer and it was a good thing to do because there were 2 immigration officers this time interviewing us. They said that because someone decided to do the service motion they wanted to make sure that it was not because they felt pressure to do so by our congressman. February 1st, 2008. The interview was intense; they were asking lots of questions. They asked my husband why he failed to show for the fingerprints, he explained to them that we had moved and that same month we sent the change of address form. She asked if we had copies of the AR-11 form because they had no record that we've ever sent it to them. I knew for a fact that they did received the AR-11 form because of the conversation that the immigration specialist had with an office at the USCIS but whatever. In the end they told us they will review the case further and make a decision. They wrote pending in my husband passport and said that that was all. After all we have been through I was expecting them to stamp my husband passport right there but on the other hand at least they didn't deny it again. It’s has now been six month since our interview and we had not heard anything from the USCIS so I decided to call and ask for information about the status of the case. 07/10/08 we received a letter from the US citizenship and Immigration services informing us that the case is under review and that we should receive something within 60 days of the letter. We work, pay bills and out taxes. What is the problem? I think this is just because my husband is Moroccan. My husband says that if he doesn't get his green card this year, he will go back to see his parent no matter what happens. Killah B You are Hispanic right? I'm guessing you are an immigrant also or at least someone in your family is. How would you like it if I told you to go back to Mexico or what ever it is that your from? P.S. nothing agains you too and yes God bless America. "Thats the legal system, maybe morocco will be easier to deal with." God You' re So Narrow-minded! Stop giving stupid answers! Who are you to tell me to go live in Morocco? I have just as much right to live here as any body here does. I'm an American citizen born and raised. I also have the right to be with my husband like any American that marry a person from Asia, Europe or what ever.

A question about re-applying for the US citizenship? i am a college student who has stayed to the United States since I was 17 years old. Two years ago (when I was 21 years old), I attempted to apply for the US citizenship with my brother and mother, who came to the United States. Even though all of us passed the exam and both my brother and my mother became the US citizen last year, I was rejected because the officers told me that I had not stayed in the United States for enough time after they check out my passport. Today, I hope to ask the US citizenship service to re-open my case so that I can be the US citizen, however, I am not sure whether I suppose to fill out all the forms and take the exam even though I have already passed the exam last time and I think that they have my information on file Therefore, do I need to start all of the process and take an exam all over again in order to be a US citizen? On the other hand, how much do I suppose to pay for them to re-open my case?
America wake up our rights are being taken away ! is that what you want ? The airports of the developed world have been turned into mini prototype police states, with little or no backlash from those forced to pass through them. But of course we’ll suffer any assault on our God-given rights to ‘save us from the terrorists,’ won’t we? This argument is based on the assumption that there are actual terrorists worth worrying about and secondly that the measures being taken in our airports are aimed at stopping their activity. Both claims cannot be substantiated.Following in the footsteps of several US counterparts, Sydney Airport recently announced its beta testing of face recognition biometric cameras, aimed at identifying ‘terrorists and other undesirable travellers’ according to the Sydney Morning Herald. As with all biometric technologies, the digital algorithms that make up your facial features are captured and compared with a computer database of criminals. If you resemble an enemy of the state then red flags are immediately coordinated to the operator and your dangerous terrorist activity is brought to a swift halt. Proponents of this system fail to take into account that terrorist masterminds are hardly likely to use notorious criminals to carry out operations where their movements will be filmed a hundred times over. If there were nineteen hijackers on September 11 roaming around American airports, surely there would be multiple video sequences of their activity? The FBI says so but all they have provided us with is a dodgy tape of Atta with two different time stamps on it. The rest is classified ‘due to the ongoing investigation’. Another fairly important factor related to facial recognition technology is that it doesn’t actually work. A Boston Globe report, cited by The Register, concludes that a similar test at Boston’s Logan Airport failed miserably. You see, not unlike a toaster that only has two settings – burnt and warm bread – facial recognition technology is either far too sensitive or positively laid back. Either Ahmed and his terrorist chums walk on by unhindered or a mother with a pram is likely to be subjected to an armed standoff. On the non-sensitive setting, anyone who is aware of the technology can avoid it by wearing a pair of sunglasses. So what other methods will Big Brother present in order to ‘save us from the terrorists’? In the first stage of what will eventually morph into the behemoth ‘Total Information Awareness’ – the US Justice Department has proposed anti-terrorism regulations that would entail everyone who wanted to fly in and out of the country would be forced to disclose detailed personal information. This report was carried by The Washington Times. Even though the Immigration and Naturalization Service would implement the regulations, the law would apply to American citizens. This at a time when both the northern and southern borders are more wide open than ever. The ACLU, more interested in making sure gay people are allowed to cavort in street parades, have declared no opposition to the proposal. Some people, perhaps even most, would have no aversion to providing their name, date of birth, citizenship, sex, passport number, country of residence, U.S. visa number, and address while in the United States. I would certainly support such measures for foreigners if I were under the delusion that our governments had any incentive to prevent terrorism. But what most don’t realize is that this is only the initial stage of a nice little horror that the government has been planning for a year or more. As can be judged from reports early last year by both The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times, these new proposals are merely the first generation in the creation of a centralized government database via the airports and airliners and one which will possibly form the largest chunk of Total Information Awareness. Federal aviation authorities (power) in alliance with technology companies (greed) eventually plan to delve much deeper into your personal life, right down to your daily activities through to what magazines you read. This, according to Joseph Del Balzo, formerly with the FAA, will enable the government to have, “a pretty good idea of what’s going on in a person’s mind.” Such minute details would characterize an individual’s ‘threat assessment’ – so if you willingly submit to letting the government know how many times you go to the toilet a day then you’ll get a green security grade, cheap airline tickets, fast airport security checks, convenience and consumer love. On the other hand, if you have any semblance of morality or memories of what it was like to live in a free country and refuse the ‘trusted traveller pass’ – you’ll get a red security grade and will be rightly hassled for the subversive that you are. The government will have a large task on its hands collating all the data, but has already been assured by market research companies that the system is workable. They will willingly pass on the data they’ve collected on you from all those annoying dinnertime calls, just for a small slice of the money pie. Big Brother then quashes our fears by promising us there is no possible scope for abuse of the program. Officials admit that ultimately the system is designed to be integrated into the biometric national ID card. Let me spell it out for you. A mandatory national ID card with your biometric thumbprint scanned on which tells the reader how the government view your behaviour on a scale of ‘submissive and compliant with state demands’ (green) to ‘definite subversive, possible enemy of the state and potential terrorist – 9pm house curfew’. Get the picture? Just take a glance at how the early ‘security measures’ have played out at airports across the world. Every week we hear stories about 18-year-old zit faced adolescents fondling blonde haired, blue-eyed women because they might be terrorists. Or how obese, greasy old men take 8-year-old Katie aside for some ‘special screening’. Nicholas Monahan, a film producer, related the harrowing tale of how his pregnant wife was forced to expose herself and have screeners touch her breasts in full public view at Portland International Airport. Upon seeing his wife crying her eyes out, Monahan complained and was subsequently arrested and thrown in the airport jail (yes they do have those now). Monahan likened his experience to something out of The Gulag Archipelago. The trauma of the experience contributed to his wife having to have a caesarean section. Don’t forget for a second that all this is coming from a government that is ‘manufacturing terrorist alerts to keep the issue alive in the minds of voters and to keep President Bush’s approval ratings high’ according to World Net Daily. Go look for the definition of terrorism in your dictionary and you’ll get something similar to, "The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.” By this very definition, the only group gaining a political advantage from terrorism or the threat of terrorism is the White House! Who is creating the ‘terrorist threat’ to justify the windfall of power and money that goes hand in glove with new airport security regulations? The very same group pushing the security regulations. Here’s a solution that would prevent another September 11 from happening, along with preventing our airports from becoming police state processing points. It’s a solution that is loaded with common sense, guaranteed to work, but would make no money for technology companies and wouldn’t contribute to feeding Total Information Awareness, which is just coincidentally why the government has been dragging its feet over implementing it. Arm the pilots.

Tucson Region Rules waived to add security along 220 miles of AZ border By Brady McCombs and Howard Fischer Arizona Daily Star Capitol Media Services Tucson, Arizona | Published: 04.02.2008 advertisementThe Department of Homeland Security laid claim Tuesday to at least 220 of the 350 miles of U.S.-Mexican border in Arizona to build fences, roads and towers without having to comply with environmental regulations. A congressionally mandated deadline to have 670 miles of fences, barriers, roads and lighting along the U.S.-Mexico border in place by the end of the year drove Secretary Michael Chertoff to invoke the waiver. To date, the agency has completed 309 miles of projects, leaving it with 361 miles to complete in nine months. What Tuesday's order does, Chertoff said, is ensure that the rest of what is necessary can be built without having to complete full-blown environmental-impact statements — and without fearing that one or more sections will become tied up in court. The announcement, however, was greeted by disdain from local environmental-protection groups and a pair of Arizona legislators. "I think every American should be up in arms that the federal government is waiving these laws," said Sean Sullivan, co-chairman of the Sierra Club Rincon Group, which covers Southeastern Arizona. "They are just going to bulldoze ahead in order to get all the projects they had lined up completed." The waiver encompasses nearly two-thirds of Arizona's international border, including swaths of land from as far west as Yuma to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line. Some of the larger expanses revealed by Homeland Security include: ● More than 60 miles stretching from about seven miles east of Sasabe to south of Fort Huachuca in Cochise County. ● More than 55 miles on the Tohono O'odham Reservation, from just east of the village of Ali Ak Chin to near Sasabe. ● More than 50 miles across the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge west of Lukeville. ● More than 20 miles from east of Douglas to near the Arizona-New Mexico state line. In total, Homeland Security identified 13 areas in Arizona. The detailed plans — or what's already under construction or has been completed — for each of the areas weren't available Tuesday. None is a new project, said Amy Kudwa, Homeland Security spokeswoman. "We are simply moving forward with their expeditious construction," Kudwa said. The projects will fall under the general category of "pedestrian and vehicle fence construction, towers, sensors, cameras, detection equipment and roads in the vicinity of the border," Homeland Security said. It's the fourth time Chertoff has used the waiver, created in the 2005 Real ID Act to waive compliance with federal regulations for all border projects. He invoked the waiver on the previous three occasions for individual projects: in October 2007 for construction of two miles of fencing in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area in Southeastern Arizona; in January 2007 on the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range in Southwestern Arizona; and in 2005 in San Diego. Each use has elicited harsh criticism from environmentalists and critics who say no one person should have such overreaching power. Chertoff's use of that 2005 waiver authority "has created a lawless border," said Matt Clark, Southwest representative of Defenders of Wildlife. The waiver continues a pattern of neglecting important environmental, health and safety laws to build an ineffective and environmentally damaging border wall, Clark said. "That arbitrary deadline has resulted in lawlessness along the border and a disregard for environmental health and safety laws," he said. In a statement, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., called the use of the waiver "outrageous," saying neither her office nor local or state elected officials were consulted. "This is unacceptable," Giffords said. "A federal government construction project of this magnitude will impact significantly on local residents, communities and the environment. Those of us who live on the border and represent border communities deserve a seat at the table." U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., called such a broad and poorly conceived waiver lazy. "Secretary Chertoff is abusing the authority granted him by the Congress with this ham-handed waiver," Grijalva said in a statement. "With the stroke of his pen, he overturns 36 laws — some of which have been protecting our resources and our health for more than a century — in an area stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean." In a prepared statement Tuesday, Chertoff said his actions are justified. "The flow of illegal traffic through the border region imperils our ability to fight terrorism by stopping the illegal entry of terrorists, and exposes our border communities and the rest of the United States to the ill effects of drug smuggling, human smuggling and gang activity," he said. "Illegal border traffic has also caused severe and profound impacts to the environment." Invoking the waiver will prevent legal wrangling that could delay projects, he said. That's exactly what happened last year when two environmental groups sought to halt construction of fences and vehicle barriers along the southern edge of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Challengers said federal officials did not properly consider ways to minimize the impact of the new construction. Chertoff eventually invoked the waiver, and construction continued. Chertoff denied that environmental concerns are being ignored. He said that there is at least a "draft environmental assessment or environmental impact statement" for all of the miles where his agency is erecting new pedestrian fencing. And he said most of the other projects — aside from fences to keep pedestrians out — also will have those kinds of assessments.
